Tilly and the Bookwanderers by Anna James review

4/5 Stars

Eleven-year-old Tilly has lived above her grandparents' bookshop ever since her mother disappeared shortly after she was born. Like the rest of her family, Tilly loves nothing more than to escape into the pages of her favourite stories. One day Tilly realises that classic children's characters are appearing in the shop through the magic of `book wandering' - crossing over from the page into real life. With the help of Anne of Green Gables and Alice in Wonderland. Tilly is determined to solve the mystery of what happened to her mother all those years ago, so she bravely steps into the unknown, unsure of what adventure lies ahead and what dangers she may face.

This book is every bookworm's dream. Tilly is able to make her favourite characters come alive and is able to go inside the books she reads and I loved it. It was so whimsical and so cute, every page was an adventure and I enjoyed every second of it. I didn't love the storyline about who her father is though and felt like that could have been better, I also didn't really like the of her mother trying to change a book for her own desires as it felt a bit weird and selfish to me. I did love everything else about this book though. I loved Alice and Anne as side characters as I love their characters in their own book so thoroughly enjoyed their addition to this book.
